GERMAN MOTHER'S 'BIBLE' SAFE, HIDING 'MEIN KAMPF', HER MOTHER'S CROSS AND SON'S DEATH CARD - A unique relic, a hidden safe in the shape of a German Bible, totally sized 6 x 9.5 x 2.5 in., housing a hidden paper mache box which is concealed when placed in a bookshelf. The hidden safe likely belonged to the mother of a dead Wehrmacht soldier named Michael Moniker, as the box inside contains: an original Bronze Mother's Cross with ribbon; a 1941 issue of 'Mein Kampf'; a thumbnail portrait of an older woman; and Michael Moniker's 'death card', 4pp. 2.5 x 4 in., indicating that he was an 'unteroffizier' and recipient of the Iron Cross and that he died Oct. 14, 1941 in Ukraine. Her purpose for concealing these objects is unknown, yet they may have been hidden from Allied occupiers after war's end. Very good condition.
