ALEXANDER OF TUNIS 'SPECIAL ORDER OF THE DAY' BEFORE THE GOTHIC LINE
Scarce imprint issued by British Field Marshal HAROLD ALEXANDER as Supreme Allied Commander, Mediterranean Theater, 1p. 8vo., Allied Force Headquarters, April 1945. Written as the Americans and British prepared an attack on the Gothic Line, Alexander's order spurs his entire command on towards the final victory. In part: 'Final victory is near. The German Forces are now very groggy and only need one mighty punch to knock them out for good. The moment has now come for us to take the field for the last battle which will end the war in Europe...It is now our turn to play our decisive part...a mortally wounded beast can still be very dangerous. You must be prepared for a hard and bitter fight...'. Diagonal crease to top-right corner, else fine.
