GERHARD VON SCHWERIN - GERHARD VON SCHWERIN (1899 - 1980) German general, recipient of the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. A brilliant commander, he led commandos in North Africa, led Panzer Jager units at Stalingrad, and defended the Italian front. Interesting D.S., 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d. but undoubtedly Germany, ca. 1947-48], a pencil-signed carbon in which von Schwerin appeals to the occupying powers to permit him to work in particular fields he prefers '...after the release of the prisoner...', including: '...the Boy Scout movement...it would give me great pleasure to work in this field...for reconstruction work on behalf of...the military government...I would be particularly grateful for a position [in the military] as a teacher, using my experiences from two world wars...' Lightly toned.
