GERD VON RUNDSTEDT - (1875 - 1953) German field marshal who led the blitzkrieg attack on France, seizing the country within two weeks, defeated by Allied forces in Normandy and in the desperate Battle of the Bulge. Von Rundstedt writes from a British military hospital, in part: '...it is truly a difficult assignment which you have taken on down there. We are now 5 months in captivity as 'Criminals' and no one knows what will happen to us. Recently our 'Friend' John was here, under orders of W.O.-A bad sign since we have to thank him for all this hog-mess. The Devil shall get him, this Emigrant!'. Von Rundstedt signs at the conclusion.
