D-DAY FRENCH CURRENCY SIGNED BY 101ST AIRBOURNE DIVISION - Great collection of signatures on a French 100 franc note, almost certainly war-date, approx. 7 x 3 in., signed by over 25 officers and enlisted men of the 101st Airborne Division shortly after the D-Day Invasion, notably including MAXWELL TAYLOR (1901-1987), American general and commander of the 101st Airborne Division, and ANTHONY MCAULIFFE (1898-1975) American Army general who held Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, remembered for his reply to a German surrender ultimatum, 'Nuts!' The note was additionally signed by Captain JACK L. LEVIN, McAuliffe's personal physician who owned this note, and many more soldiers with the 101st, including: CECIL WILSON, JOHN JONES, VINCENT VECOU, ROBERT SCOTT, J.M. SHERRY, JOHN HARRELL, KENNETH DUNCAN [?], HARRY DALLAWAY, and others. Sold with an A.L. (unsigned) from Captain Levin, 1p. 4to., identifying some of the names on the note. Slight folds, two slight tears, else fine.
