CLIFT ANDRUS - (1890 - 1968) Highly decorated American U.S. Army general with the rank of major general. He is most noted for his service as a commander of 1st Infantry Division at the end of World War II. Good content T.L.S. 'Clift' as commander of the 1st Infantry Division on official letterhead, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Apr. 11, 1946, to his predecessor in the same position, Gen. CLARENCE R. HUEBNER. In part: 'Enclosed is a letter and a medal for you from the City of Mons [not present]. The City is erecting a museum in which will be placed various trophies...commemorating our battle there. Only the 1st Division and the 3rd Armored Division will be represented...we expect to dedicate our first monument in Cheb...I am going to Prague...for their first annual liberation day festivities...We will be able to dedicate the second one, on Omaha Beach, on 6 June. The foundation is set, the stone is cut, and the names are now being carved. The location is on top of the bluff where George Gibb had his CP when we landed...' File holes in margin, else fine.
