ALEXANDER M. PATCH - (1889 - 1945) American Army general who also commanded Marines in the invasion of Guadalcanal to relieve the 1st Marine Div., headed the invasion landings in southern France and link-up with Patton's Third Army. Died of pneumonia. Great war-date signed commemorative envelope, 1p. oblong 12mo., showing a yellow train labeled 'UNITED NATIONS' chasing caricatures of Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo, all above the title: 'CLEAR THE TRACKS!'. Patch signs twice: once in the forwarding address, adding rank, and once at bottom-left. Mounting remnants on the verso, else fine, with Oct. 5, 1944 cancel.
