MAJOR GEN. CALEB VANCE HAYNES PRESENTATION SCOTTISH OFFICER'S SPORRAN - Fine Scottish officer's horsehair sporran with five tassels and gilt cantle at top bearing a rampant lion and eagles in relief. Leather pocket and straps on reverse, all in fine condition. According to our consignor, a direct linear descendant, this sporran was presented to Haynes by the people of Prestwick, Scotland upon his delivery of the first B-24 ”Liberator” bomber to England, an airplane that proved invaluable to that country's offensive operations and in service with RAF Coastal Command on anti-submarine patrols in the Battle of the Atlantic. Haynes organized the Assam-Burma-China Ferry Command and evacuated Burma with the Chinese and RAF. He then went to China to organize and command the Bomber Command of the China Air Task Force under Gen. Claire Chennault. He later returned to India to organize the India Air Task Force of the 10th Air Force.
