JAPANESE SURRENDER PHOTO SIGNED BY MACARTHUR, NIMITZ, WAINWRIGHT AND PERCIVAL - JAPANESE SURRENDER PHOTO SIGNED BY MACARTHUR NIMITZ WAINWRIGHT AND PERCIVAL A very rare signed printed image of Douglas MacArthur seated upon the deck of the USS MISSOURI in Tokyo Bay September 2 1945 as he signs the Japanese Instrument of Surrender. Allied representatives look on and four present have signed across their respective images. Included is Gen. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR (1880-1964) who signs “D Mac A”; Fleet Adm. CHESTER W. NIMITZ (1885-1966) who signed the surrender as the U.S. representative Gen. JONATHAN WAINWRIGHT (1883-1953) who led Army forces during the fall of the Philippines and suffered greatly during his captivity by the Japanese; and British Gen. ARTHUR PERCIVAL (1887-1966) who commanded British Commonwealth forces during the Japanese Malayan Campaign and the subsequent Battle of Singapore. He was imprisoned with Wainwright for the duration of the war. This image shows MacArthur giving Percival one of the signing pens. The photo scuffed at lower-left is mounted upon a 9.5 x 4 inch envelope canceled in Washington DC on September 28 1945. A rare combination of signatures.
