George Herbert Baker: Impressionist Landscape - George Herbert Baker (American, 1878 - 1943): Impressionist Landscape. Oil on canvas, signed by another hand verso, framed. Noted for impressionist watercolor and pastel landscapes, George Baker was a well-known Indiana landscapist. He was born in Muncie and studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy. He exhibited at the Hoosier Salon and worked in the Richmond, Indiana area, belonging to the Richmond Group of artists. The Richmond Art Museum put on a retrospective exhibition of his work, ”The Art of George Herbert Baker, ” in 2001. 27.5 x 32.5 inches framed; 24 x 28 inches canvas. Private collection Rhode Island. Fair condition; the painting has been repaired and retouched throughout; paint loss running through center canvas/ horizon; craquelure and surface grime throughout.
