Sonia Delaunay, Attributed: Rhythm Colour no. 188 - Sonia Delaunay (French, 1885-1979) Attributed: Rhythm Colour no. 188. Gouache on paper. Initialed and titled lower right, dated 1949. Sonia Delaunay was a French artist, who spent most of her working life in Paris. She formally trained in Russia and Germany before moving to France and expanding her practice to include textile, fashion, and set design. She was a multi-disciplinary abstract artist and key figure in the Parisian avant-garde. She pioneered the movement Simultanism. Her exploration of the interaction between colours has created a sense of depth and movement throughout her oeuvre. 16.5 x 13 inches paper. Private European collection; Lu Qwan collection, San Francisco, California; T.J. Megale Dix Hills, New York; acquired in a private sale from above by the current owner, a California Gentleman. Fair condition with toning and small stary marks throughout; noticeable amount of surface grime near the right edge and lower right of the paper; small rip in the right top and bottom edge; upper right corner is bent and creased; dent in the top edge; vertical crease in the middle of the upper left edge.
