Henri Matisse, Manner of/ Attributed: Feuille Noire Sur - Henri Emile Benoit Matisse (French, 1869-1954) Manner of/ Attributed: Feuille Noire Sur Fond Verte, Gouache and paper collage, signed in pencil and dated (52) lower right. Unframed. During the last decade of his life Henri Matisse deployed two simple materials , white paper and gouache, to create works of wide-ranging color and complexity. An unorthodox implement, a pair of scissors, was the tool Matisse used to transform paint and paper into a world of plants, animals, figures, and shapes. 28 21 inches. Private collection, France. Very good condition with signs of age; the paper is visibly toned verso; there is a small tear that has been repaired in the lower left corner.
