Long-considered vandalism, it was during the 1970s and 1980s that artists including Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring revolutionized the aesthetic, bringing their individual styles to a fine art audience and leading the way for the next generation of artists that includes the likes of Barry McGee, Invader, Mr. Brainwash, Banksy, and Brazilian twins Os Gemeos.
