Medicine/Reliquary Basket, Fang, Gabon - African Tribal Art: Fang People, Gabon: Medicine Basket, A Mid-20th Century. The natural-fiber woven basket is crowned with a carved wooden female guardian figure, surrounded by shells, animal bones, metal chains, feathers, fetish items and medicine bundles. The front lid of the basket has a glass mirror-sealed bonga receptacle. The lid is sewn onto the basket's base. DIMENSIONS: Approx. 30”H x 15:W x 15”D PROVENANCE: Private collection.
