Braque: Chariot - Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963)Manner of/ Attributed: Chariot. Gouache and watercolor on cardboard, signed lower right. Undated, unframed. The subject of a chariot and horses was a recurring theme of Braque's prints in the late 1940s and early 1950s. His first post-war work was a lithograph entitled Phaethon (Chariot I) 1945 after the son of the Greek sun-god Helios. There followed no less than six variant images of a figure driving two horses, each entitled Helios. Georges Braque was most well known for being the founder of Cubism alongside famous artist Pablo Picasso. In addition to the invention of Cubism, he did also focus on other forms of art which were prominent during this time period as well.
