Mumuye People, Nigeria: Lagalagana Figure, early 20th century. This impressively tall (43 inches) figure depicts a female with a crescent hairstyle, a stylized triangular face characterized by tubular eyes, triangular nose and mouth, and scarified cheeks ending with squared chin. This well-carved and highly finished example of Mumuye sculpture is a prime example of the best abstract and stylistic accomplishments of African figural representation. It comes with a custom-made wooden display base.
