Banksy (Manner of): Barcode - Banksy (British, b. 1974) (Manner of): Barcode. Spray paint on metal British street sign. ”Banksy” stenciled at the bottom. This design is an early and highly coveted stencil artwork created by Banksy in 2004. The Barcode image is one of Banksy’s earliest. The Bristol-born artist tagged it onto a wall outside of a house in his hometown around 1999 or 2000. The urban street art piece was thought lost in 2010 after an extensive remodeling of the property, only to re-emerged four years later at a nearby grammar school where one of the teachers revealed that her husband had been one of the constructions workers at the scene of the remodel. The teacher and her husband recognized that the stencil was a Banksy, and received permission from the homeowner to cut out the stencil before demolition. They kept it hidden under their bed for four years, until they were ready to show it. Banksy is an anonymous England-based graffiti artist, political activist and film director. His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique. This item can not be authenticated by Pest Control. Pest Control authenticates only the works of Street Art that are still located in their place of origin and according to Pest Control was not made for trade, therefore Pest Control refuses to authenticate the work, urban interventions, especially the modified signs, sold as is.
