Henri Matisse, Manner of: La Blouse Roumaine - Odalisque Debout - This sanguine on paper drawing is in the fauvist linear style of Henri Emile Benoit Matisse (French, 1869-1954). In this fine drawing a woman poses nonchalantly leaning against an implied wall. This item is initialed lower right, and is being sold unframed. Matisse was known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. He was a draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor, but is known primarily as a painter. Matisse is accepted as one of the most influential modern painters and crowned as the leader of Fauvism, a 20th century movement that favored a painterly style and bold, expressive use of color over the representational or naturalistic values of the Impressionist movement before.
